Seafood Extravaganza: A Land & Sea Journey at Fish House Steak & Grill

There’s something exciting about dining at a restaurant that’s trying to do something different, and that’s exactly the feeling you get at Fish House Steak & Grill. The latest venture from husband-and-wife duo Todd Young and Kristine Young, the restaurant brings a fresh energy to the Mooloolaba dining scene, blending premium local produce with bold Japanese-inspired flavours.

My partner and I opted for the Land and Sea tasting experience, which I think is one of the best ways to experience the menu. What makes it even better is that when dining as a pair, you can mix the two tastings—giving you the chance to explore both sides of the kitchen. It’s a clever concept and perfect if, like us, you want a bit of everything.

From the start, it was clear that the menu takes inspiration from the kind of flavour layering you’d expect from somewhere like Nobu—clean, bold, and full of contrast. There’s a real confidence in how the dishes are built: salty against sweet, citrus against umami, smoke against freshness.

The seafood was the standout for me. Each dish felt like a celebration of the coast, but with unexpected Asian influences that made it far more interesting than your typical seafood offering. Bright citrus, soy, miso, and delicate spice all worked together beautifully without ever overpowering the natural freshness of the ingredients. It felt playful, but still refined.

The land dishes brought balance to the experience—rich, beautifully cooked, and packed with depth. The contrast between the lighter seafood courses and the more indulgent meat dishes made the whole tasting feel well thought out, with enough variety to keep every course interesting.

What I appreciated most about Fish House is that it doesn’t feel like it’s playing it safe. In an area where seafood and steak are abundant, this restaurant is carving out its own lane by bringing in these Japanese-inspired flavour profiles and doing something a little unexpected.

The service tied it all together—warm, knowledgeable, and refined, which suited the atmosphere perfectly.

Fish House Steak & Grill feels like a restaurant with a clear identity, and that’s rare. It’s ambitious without being pretentious, creative without losing sight of flavour, and for anyone visiting Mooloolaba looking for something beyond the expected, it’s absolutely worth experiencing.
